Pramod Mahajan

Late Mr. Pramod Mahajan (1949-2006) former Union Minister, parliamentarian and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had played a key role in developing Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP) to its present status and glory. From the humble beginnings in the small office at Wadala in South Mumbai to the sprawling 15 acre, international standard training facility (Knowledge-Excellence Centre) in Bhayander, Mr. Mahajan took a lion's share in nurturing and growing RMP.

A master of public relations, Mr. Mahajan's efforts helped RMP reach across various sections of society including elected representatives, civil society, corporates, bureaucrats and media. Pramod Mahajan sincerely believed in the concept behind RMP and on several occasions he stressed the need for building the capacities of politicians, especially those elected to public positions. He was a continuous source of encouragement for all the functionaries of RMP. In the truest sense of the term, Pramod Mahajan remained an ideal mentor for RMP. When he met his untimely death in 2006, everybody in RMP felt like losing a family head.

Known for his professional approach, modern outlook and ability to think-big, Mr. Mahajan had made it a point that the Knowledge-Excellence Centre at Uttan offers everything that is truly of international standards: capacity-building training, research assistance and also amenities and ambience.

He was at the helm of RMP for full 16 years as president and nurtured it like his own baby. Even while giving his visionary inputs in bringing perfection in the working of the organisation, he ensured that RMP office bearers enjoy all functional autonomy. This encouraged active participation of all at every level and a healthy exchange of new ideas. It was due to his efforts that RMP could successfully seek UN recognition as an NGO in Special Consultative status.

That Mr. Mahajan made his mark on politics in India is beyond any doubt. However, his contribution in the institutional development of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP) is something singularly unique.
